Why The Areopagus Script?

When Paul came to Athens, "he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and in the market place every day with those who happened to be present. And also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him. Some were saying, ‘What would this idle babbler wish to say?’ Others, ‘He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,’--because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection. And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, ‘May we know what this new teaching is which you are proclaiming? ‘For you are bringing some strange things to our ears; so we want to know what these things mean.’ Now all the Athenians and the strangers visiting there used to spend their time in nothing other than telling or hearing something new. So Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, ‘Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects.” (Acts 17:17-22). It was in this context that Paul challenged the religious thinkers of his day to rise above the cacophonous calls of their culture, and to listen to truths about God.

Our purpose with this blog is to challenge God’s people everywhere to listen to truths that run contrary to our culture. Our prayer is to encourage deeper, more meaningful, more faithful, and more precise study of the Word of God. We are students of God’s Word and we hope you will join us as people who love to study. It is paramount that we quit receiving our cues from everyone around us and we get back to the Book of all books.

While we are open to study and discussion, we will not be involved in debating in this web site. Anyone is welcomed and encouraged to make comments about articles we post, but we will not always respond to comments.

The four bloggers who will be posting here do not agree on every subject and we are aware that not everyone who reads will agree with us. In the next few days, we will post our rules and guidelines. From time to time, we will suggest other blogs, web sites, and books that have been helpful to us. Thank you for logging on and welcome to the Areopagus Script.

Dear Squinter,

Welcome to the Script.

If you need to see a larger font, try holding down the CTRL key while rolling the scroll button on your mouse. Font size should change for you.

Great blog fellas. I can't say that I've ever been interested in anyone's blog until now (who came up with the word "blog" anyway). I've got you bookmarked and I'll definitely check in frequently. So far, so good.

Ditto on the small print. It makes the print on the projector screen in the auditorium seem big. ;)
